A white, lustrous metal with high
thermal conductivity and electrical resistivity
is silver. Silver has lot of uses, and is even
edible.
It can be found in most of the households in
many forms like cutlery, crockery, pooja items,
decorative, jewelry, cases, flower vases, furniture,
dinner sets, glasses, the idols of deities, and
so on, because it is cost effective, and highly
durable.
Moreover, possessing silver is an asset and a
form of investment. However, due to its feature
to combine with Oxygen, it tarnishes and becomes
black, with the passage of time.

Therefore, it is very essential to clean the silver
articles, time to time, so that the luster and the look
are maintained.
There are many tips and tricks that allow you clean
the silver at home. These techniques are not only easy
but also cost effective as the cleansing agents are
normally found in your kitchen.
1. If a silver article is tarnishing,
you can just apply a small dab of toothpaste on it,
and clean with a toothbrush or your finger, and rinse
it with water.
| It is important that the water
particles on it should be removed totally with
a clean dry cloth.
2. You can also use the paste
of baking soda and water to clean the silver articles.
Apply the paste on the article, and clean with
a damp sponge.
Then, use hot water to rinse it, and clean with
a soft cloth. In case of highly tarnished silver,
apply the paste on the areas for at least an hour,
and follow the same procedure to clean it.
3. To remove lacquer from the

4. Boil one tablespoon of salt and
baking soda with a glass of water with an aluminum foil,
and then add the silver articles to the boiling mixture,
and let it boil for a minute. Then, you can remove the
silver, rinse it with water, and use a soft cloth to
dry it.
Make sure that the silver articles are kept away from
rubber, table salt, olives, salad dressings, eggs, vinegar,
fruit juices, and so on to avoid corrosion and permanent
damage to the designs on these articles.
